Il Posto at 2011 East17th 303 394 0100. Very good and very authentic Northern Italianfood, lovingly and simply prepared in a real
Trattoria atmosphere. Great wines also.
BOULDER.
Radda 1265 Alpine Avenue, 303.442.6100. The chef is the amazing Don Gragg who worked for us at Mel's in the early days and is
a great talent. He also worked at ChezPanisse in Berkely and his food is sublime. It is a VERY reasonably priced menu and everything
he does is terrific. Only draw back to uswas the sound level in the restaurant which is deafening but it adds to the atmosphere I suppose!
JACKSONVILLE, FL
Bistro Aix 1440San Marco Blvd 904 398 1949 I spent three days selling my Tortoise Creek wines in Florida this Spring and so caught
a few good meals. The first was a lunch at this wonderful French Brasserie.Excellent food, good wine list and fun atmosphere.
TAMPA, FL
The town's most famous restaurant is Bern’s Steak House which has great steaks but also the largest wine list probably anywhere in
the world. I sold some wine to the late Bern Laxer in the early seventies which I think are still on his list! Next door to Berns is a new
place that his son, David Laxer, opened called Sideberns 2208 W. Morrison, Tampa, FL 813 258 2233. which has other things
besides steakand the food here is superb although very expensive.
CLEARWATER,
FL Just outside of Tampa is Clearwater and a most unlikely place tofind superb food. It is called Café Ponte 13305 Icot Blvd 727 538-
5722 and the owner/chef, Christopher Ponte is producing amazinglygood food. He worked at Daniel in New York and at Taillevant in Paris
and so is a real diamond in the rough there. If you have any reasonto be in Tampa, don’t miss this jewel!
